USRFD Assists Saddle River with CO Incident

Saturday, June 14, 2014   This morning at 10:46am, the USRFD was requested to respond to Saddle River for an activated carbon monoxide alarm. Asst Chief Vierheilig (IC) and Engine 1231 (OIC FF Bertollo) arrived on scene to find contractors using a gas powered demo saw in the basement. Further investigation with meters found readings over 150 ppm in basement. The workers were told to evacuate the basement and vent fans were used for 30 minutes to push fresh air into the area. Once zero readings were found throughout, units were released.



FD Responds to Possible Basement Fire

Friday, June 13, 2014   Last night at 11:31pm, while assisting SRFD on a carbon monoxide alarm in Saddle River, the USRFD was dispatched to a heavy smoke condition in the garage of a home on Grist Mill Lane in USR. Chief Vogelsang (IC), Asst Chief Vierheilig (Ops), Engine 1232 (OIC Lt Sklar), Engine 1231 (OIC FF Bertollo), and Tanker 1233 (OIC FF Roberts) were all on scene within minutes. Crews quickly investigated to find an issue with the well tank controls in the utility room off the garage. The system was shut down and area checked with the thermal imaging camera. Basement and garage were ventilated. Once clear all fire units returned. Thanks to HoHoKus FD and Ramsey FD for their quick response.



FD Dispatched to Fire Alarm

Tuesday, June 10, 2014   This evening, the USRFD was dispatched to a residence on Hampshire Hill Road for an activated fire alarm. Asst Chief Vierheilig (IC) and Engine 1232 (OIC Capt Redmond) responded and once on scene, the engine crew investigated, checked the kitchen with the thermal imaging camera, and naturally ventilated the home. Once the alarm was reset, all units returned



FD Dispatched to CO Incident

Monday, June 9, 2014   This afternoon, the USRFD was dispatched to respond to Saddle River for a carbon monoxide incident in a residence on North Wildwood Road. Asst Chief Vierheilig and Engine 1231 (OIC FF Weingroff) arrived and the crew found high reading throughout the home. With the assistance of a technician from PSEG, the engine crew isolated the source of the CO. A vent fan was used to force fresh air into the home. Once clear, USR units returned to our Boro.



Reported Room Fire at Assisted Living Facility Sends Multiple FD's To Assist

Sunday, June 8, 2014   This morning, Asst Chief Vierheilig, Chief Vogelsang, and Tanker 1233 responded to Saddle River for a reported room fire in a senior living facility. Allendale FD Chief, Tower Ladder and Rescue and Ramsey FD Chiefs and Tower Ladder also responded. Once fire units arrived and investigated, it was found to be a smoke condition due to cooking. Building was ventilated and alarm system reset. Once clear, all units were returned.



FD Assists With Triathlon Race

FD Responds to Saddle River dumpster fire

Friday, June 6, 2014   The USRFD is currently operating in Saddle River with the SRFD at a dumpster fire on Denison Drive.
